Fly like a bird

My very first Zoom workshop was a good few months ago now back in June 2020. I`ve had an ambition for a while to test and somewhat push myself into delivering classes and workshops online. The opportunity presented itself when the Design and Crafts Council Ireland had a call out for kite making workshops for Cruinniú na nÓg.

The technical preparation was quite a lengthy one. Getting multiple cameras and stable internet ready, running several test meetings with lovely friends to make sure that switching of cameras and sharing screen on Zoom can run as smoothly as possible. On the other hand, I have spend almost 2 weeks on getting my instructions of the bird shaped kites as child friendly and easy as possible. I made kites from newspaper, wrapping paper, bin bags and shopping bags so children can assemble one from materials found in their homes. It was a great challenge since a kite is a functional object. It is not enough to decorate it nicely but it should also fly well.

The workshop was set up as a webinar so I couldn`t see the families who attended. I was really missing the interaction with the children but was delighted to receive some nice feedback and see some images of the finished kites!

Welcome to my first blog post!

Welcome to my first blog post!

2020 has brought a lot of new developments into my life. With the cancellation of my face-to-face workshops back in March, the time seemed just right for pursuing my plans and dreams for some time to create a website.

And here we are! You can see now the results of couple of months of planning and working on the content of this site.

I am hugely grateful for the financial support I have received from South Dublin Enterprise Board for this project. An enormous thank you goes to Bence and Edina at Tega Software who made this dream of mine a reality.

It was a great learning curve and also utter joy to arrive to this day. A few months ago I didn`t know anything about SEO and SSL just to mention a few of the new lingo I acquired along the way.

I am excited to further discover in the coming months and years what this new way of communication can offer for my practice.
